Jazz Funeral for Democracy |

Hundreds of people came out in New Orleans to protest the second Inauguration of George W. Bush on January 20th. They held a "jazz funeral for democracy." A brass band led the way as they paraded throgh the French Quarter with sign and banners calling attention to the War in Iraq, poverty, prisons, and other social ills being worsened by the Bush administration. |

Hundreds of people came out in New Orleans to protest the second Inauguration of George W. Bush on January 20th. They held a "jazz funeral for democracy." A brass band led the way as they paraded throgh the French Quarter with sign and banners calling attention to the War in Iraq, poverty, prisons, and other social ills being worsened by the Bush administration. The procession was preceeded by speakers in Congo Square, and more speakers took to the soapbox when the parade reached Jackson Square. The amount of people forced the police to close Decatur St. at Jackson Square while the rally was held. The participants then headed to Frenchmen St. for an "Alternative Inauguration Ball" and other party-like activities. It is, after all, only weeks away from Mardi Gras in the Big Easy. |
