Castor Tours Florida Panhandle Post Hurricane Ivan

Life along the Emerald Coast of Florida is divided into two times: Before Hurricane Ivan and After. Betty Castor will tour Florida’s Panhandle 6 weeks after Ivan. Along the way she will see recovery efforts. Her tour will culminate in an outdoor rally in the battered coastal town of Gulf Breeze, FL at 4:30 pm,
Friday, October 29, 2004 . The rally will be at the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center, 800 Shoreline Drive, Gulf Breeze, Florida 32561.

Residents from the towns of Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Escambia counties are invited to join the Rally with Betty Castor at the park. The Rally starts at 4:30 with patriotic music and live entertainment by well known local singer Pete McGahan. Free appetizers are provided through local business and the Santa Rosa Democratic Party organization.

Appearing with Betty Castor will be Douglas “Pete” Peterson. Peterson is a decorated military career for 26 years as a USAF pilot and commander. He was shot down over Northern Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
Peterson spent six and a half years as a POW in Hanoi and later became the first Ambassador to Vietnam.

“As Floridians, we are lucky to have a great choice in Betty Castor for U.S. Senator to replace our beloved but retiring Senator Bob Graham,” said Karin Helin,Democratic State Committee Woman for Santa Rosa County.

Leaving Florida’s capitol city of Tallahassee her
campaign bus will drive along State Highway 98, parts of which are still under emergency reconstruction. Betty Castor will spend time with her supporters in her last appearance in the Florida Panhandle before election night. Dwarfing the park’s 20,000 square foot facility is a mountain of debris, a painful reminder of
the clean up work still in progress from Hurricane Ivan.

Santa Rosa County chair Martha Smith will present Betty Castor with her copy of the “Santa Rosa Democrat”, an 8 page newspaper published today by newly energized Democrats in what was once considered a G.O.P county. Castor’s “Bill of Rights” for Military Families” is popular with the many military families of the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard bases located in the Panhandle.

The Gulf Breeze Recreation Center is located
approximately ¾ mile south of Highway 98 on Shoreline Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL.32561.
