Civil Rights, Voting Reform Groups to Announce Lawsuit Challenging
State Rule Prohibiting Manual Recounts on Touch Screen Voting Systems
TALLAHASSEE - At a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, a
coalition of non-partisan voting reform and civil rights organizations
will announce the filing of a lawsuit challenging a state administrative
rule that prohibits manual recounts on touch-screen voting machines.
Plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which will be filed tomorrow in Florida's
Division of Administrative Hearings in Tallahassee, include the American
Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida and Common Cause Florida. Both
organizations will have representatives available for comment at the
press conference.
Copies of the legal complaint and other materials will be available at
the news conference and will be posted on the ACLU of Florida's web site
at <http://www.aclufl.org> www.aclufl.org.
In addition, a computer expert will be available at the press conference
to answer questions regarding the computerized voting machines called
Direct Recording Equipment (DRE).
Who:

Individual plaintiffs: Ben Wilcox, Executive Director of Common Cause
Florida, and Larry Spalding, of the ACLU of Florida, will be available
