On the fourth day of continuous protest against the Republican National Convention in New York City, thousands gather at UN and march through the streets for human rights and justice for all. |
NEW YORK CITY -- Once again, thousands of New Yorkers and out-of-towners -- including at least six Pensacolians -- took to the streets in a March for Our Lives organized by the Poor People's Human Rights Campaign. The marchers held signs declaring "Health Care is a Human Right" and "Millions for the war and still nothing for the poor."
Among the protestors were a colorful anarchist flag and drum corps that kept a beat for the marchers and performed a flag routine while chanting "No Kerry! No Bush! Give us a choice! Give us a choice! No Kerry! No Bush! We have our own voice!"
Along the route, New Yorkers cheered from their apartment windows as the march passed. One buff man standing on his fire escape flexed his muscles at the crowd on the street below. Tenants at the infamous Chelsea Hotel waved and shouted from their windows as protestors chanted "Out of the Chelsea! Into the streets!"
The festive parade marched from the United Nations building at First Avenue and 45th Street toward Madison Square Garden, where the Republican National Convention is being held this week. Before reaching the Garden, though, police barricaded the marchers into two separate groups and rode horses through the crowd to intimate people. About 1,000 protestors held their ground for about two hours anc chanted at some RNC delegaes before peacefully dispersing. |
