Panhandle Supporters Set Record in April
April was a record month for Panhandle for Kerry (PFK). Thanks to your participation out our various events, most notably Earth Day and our last Kerry MeetUp, our PFK group has more than doubled in size. We now have more than 500 members in our database!
In addition, thanks to your generous donations, we were able to have hundreds of Kerry yard signs, bumper stickers and lapel buttons printed locally and distributed to area Kerry supporters. (Perhaps you have seen them about town.) The positive response to these visibility materials has been overwhelming. As a result, Panhandle Kerry supporters are coming out of the woodwork and our presence is more than obvious in the Pensacola area.
Because of your involvement, we are ahead of the rest of the state in our membership and visibility drives, and we are leading the way nationally by our example. In fact, thanks to you, Kerry campaign officials at both the state and national levels are beginning to notice our efforts here in the Panhandle. So pat yourselves on the back!
To keep this momentum going, PFK has planned several events for the month of May, in hopes that this month will be even more successful than the last. Below you will find a list of the many activities we have planned for this month and beyond. In addition, you will find important information that will be useful in the days and weeks ahead. (Again, we ask that you please print this Newsletter for future reference.)
Events for May:
Kerry Visibility/Voter Registration Rally -- Saturday, May 15
Please join us THIS Saturday at Madison's Diner for breakfast at 9 a.m. Afterwards, at 10 a.m., we will meet at East Hill Hardware, on the corner of 12th Ave. and Cross St., for a Kerry visibility and voter registration rally. THIS EVENT WILL BE VIDEOTAPED TO SEND TO NATIONAL HQ!
Our primary goal this day will be to sign up new members for PFK, as well as registering new Kerry voters for the November election. To make this a successful event, we need as much participation as possible from our members! To volunteer, see Contact Info below, or meet us Saturday at either Madison's at 9, or East Hill Hardware at 10.
Join us as we make our presence known in Pensacola at this busy intersection. We will have a table with Kerry campaign literature and visibility materials to give away to area Kerry supporters. In addition, we will be selling "John Kerry for President" T-shirts and accepting donations to further fund our grass roots efforts in the area.
If you are unable to participate, we invite you to stop by, bring a friend, neighbor, or a family member and sign them up for PFK. Moreover, we encourage you to bring an undecided and/or an unregistered voter with you and have them either register to vote or update their voter registration.
John Kerry National House Party Day -- Saturday, May 22
In conjunction with the National Kerry Campaign, members of PFK are urged to make a difference in our respective communities by hosting a neighborhood "Kerry House Party" in your homes on Saturday, May 22. People who attend these parties can take part in a live conference call from Senator John Kerry and a "surprise special guest." Perhaps the future VP nominee?
These neighborhood house parties are one of the best ways to bring in new Kerry supporters and volunteers. They are also a great way to meet up with other Kerry supporters in your neighborhood. The contacts we make at these parties can be vital to delivering the Panhandle vote for Kerry in November.
So, invite your neighbors, friends and family members to your home and help us garner local support for John Kerry. To host a "House Party" in your home, go to www.johnkerry.com/parties. Kerry MeetUp -- Thursday, May 27
Our next MeetUp will again be held at the American Legion Post 33, located on the corner of Barrancas Ave. and "G" St. at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 27. PFK members are encouraged to invite at least one new guest to attend. Let's grow the group and surpass last month's record! We realize this date comes on the eve of a holiday weekend, but please try to attend this very important meeting!
This MeetUp will be a coffee and dessert social, with a special guest speaker to be announced. During the MeetUp, we will discuss our strategies for the months ahead and begin to form subcommittees to focus on special interest groups in our area. Future Events:
Springfest -- June 18-20
We are in the process of securing a booth at Springfest in an effort to reach the thousands of people who frequent this popular three-day event in downtown Pensacola. Details will be announced at our May 27 MeetUp; however, we are asking PFK members to volunteer now to help in staffing our Kerry booth at Springfest. (See Contact Info below.)
Pensacola Interstate Fair -- October 21-31
As of May 10, thanks to Hal Retting and friends from Azalea Trace, we have acquired a booth at the Pensacola Interstate Fair. Although the Fair is months away, we are asking members to volunteer now to help us in staffing our booth. (See Contact Info below.)

We now have "John Kerry for President" T-shirts for sale through PFK. These high-quality shirts are 100% cotton with the Kerry logo and our PFK Web address silk screened on them. We are selling the T-shirts for only $12. (Available in sizes L & XL.)

Kerry Yard Signs, Bumper Stickers & Buttons
Again, thanks to your generous donations, we now have "John Kerry for President" yard signs, bumper stickers and lapel buttons available for local Kerry supporters. These items are a great way to let others know whom you are supporting for President and they can be very effective in encouraging others to become involved in the political process.
So, put a sign in your yard, a sticker on your vehicle, and wear a Kerry button wherever you may go! To get your "Kerry Gear" please contact Jerry Holt or Todd McWaters. (See Contact Info below.)
Protect Your Kerry Yard Signs!
Speaking of yard signs, please protect them! Unfortunately, we have already had several reports of members having their signs stolen or vandalized. If your sign has been stolen, please alert the Pensacola Police Department. For those of you with yard signs, we recommend that you "take them to bed" with you in the evening and put them back in the yard the next morning when you leave for work or go to retrieve the morning paper.
Wish List:
We are still looking for a location for a PFK Campaign Headquarters. If you--or anyone you know--has office space available, preferably in the downtown Pensacola business district, please contact Jerry Holt. (See Contact Info below.)
Contributions:
To continue to maintain a presence in the Panhandle and to sustain our grass roots efforts, local funding is required to make things happen. Many of you have understood this from the very beginning, as you have given so generously to PFK.
We understand that these are tough times economically for many of you, but we need your continued support to make a difference in the Pensacola area. We would also like to thank Lisa for her relentless dedication to, and hard work for PFK--without which we would not be where we are today.
